The handgun-carrying 22-year-old who took down the gunman who opened fire in a crowded shopping mall in Indiana and murdered 3 people has been lauded as a hero by most, as he stopped the shooting from getting even worse and leading to more deaths.
Sadly, however, many gun control advocates are actually attacking Dicken, saying that he should not be called a “good Samaritan”.
As a reminder of what happened, Elisjsha Dicken, 22, had been in the Greenwood Park Mall with his girlfriend when Jonathan Sapirman began to shoot at people in the food court with a rifle in what appears to be a random attack meant to cause mayhem and misery.
Sapirman managed to kill Pedro Pineda, 56, Rosa Rivera de Pineda, 37 and Victor Gomez, 30. A further 2 victims sustained minor injuries.
The tragedy was stopped from being far worse, however, because Dicken acted quickly and used the handgun he was carrying to shoot Sapirman and stop him in his tracks mere seconds after the attack began, firing off ten rounds from forty yards away and hitting Sapirman eight times. That quick thinking and stellar shooting saved countless lives.
Greenwood Police Chief, Jim Ison said the young man’s actions were “were nothing short of heroic. He engaged the gunman from quite a distance with a handgun and was very proficient”, while the mayor of Greenwood said:
“Someone we are calling the ‘Good Samaritan’ was able to shoot the assailant and stop further bloodshed. This person saved lives tonight. On behalf of the City of Greenwood, I am grateful for his quick action and heroism in this situation.“
But, of course, the radical leftists pushing gun control have a different perspective and are even attacking Dicken on social media for carrying a handgun, the handgun that gave him the ability to stop the attack!
“The term, ‘Good Samaritan’ came from a Bible passage of a man from Samaria who stopped on the side of the road to help a man who was injured and ignored,” Kollar posted to Twitter.
“I cannot believe we live in a world where the term can equally apply to someone killing someone… my God.”
Others joined in to attack responsible gun-owner and lifesaver, Dicken, as well.
Comedian John Fugelsang, for example, went on a disgraceful rant about heroic Dicken, calling the young man an “ammosexual” and saying:
“The Good Samaritan paid for an unknown immigrant’s health care out of pocket,” wrote Fugelsang.
“The Good Samaritan did not shoot anyone. Jesus was not a fan of killing for any reason, including self-defense. But if these ammosexuals had ever read the Bible, they couldn’t support the GOP or NRA.”
Not wanting to be left behind, Moms Demand Action founder Shannon Watts joined in the anti-Dicken attack as well, saying:
“I don’t know who needs to hear this but when a 22-year-old illegally brings a loaded gun into a mall and kills a mass shooter armed with an AR-15 after he already killed three people and wounded others is not a ringing endorsement of our implementation of the Second Amendment,” she posted on Twitter.
So far, Dicken is yet to make a public statement about his heroic actions.
