Bill De Blasio, the fascist mayor of New York City, has effectively enacted a vaccine mandate in the city after announcing that he is requiring restaurants and gyms in the city to follow vaccine mandates for customers who want to eat inside or use the gym to stay healthy:

New York City will require proof of vaccination for leisure indoor activities at restaurants and gyms — becoming the first major city in the United States to do so.
Mayor Bill de Blasio made the announcement at a Tuesday morning press conference. The program, also known as the “Key to NYC Pass,” will be implemented mid-August during a transition period before it will be fully enforced beginning the week of September 13.
“It is time for people to see vaccinations as literally necessary to living a good, full and healthy life,” he said during the press conference. “If you’re unvaccinated, unfortunately, you will not be able to participate in many things.”
While the mayor recognized that “not everyone’s going to agree with this,” he said the proof of vaccination will be “lifesaving.”
The mandate is the latest attempt by de Blasio to encourage more people to get vaccinated against Covid-19. Last week, he offered a $100 incentive to city residents and employees who make an appointment at city-run vaccination sites.
This is absurd and contradicts all the United States has stood for in terms of individual liberty. People in New York City (and I’m sure this will spread) are now being penalized for refusing to be injected with a vaccine that they strongly oppose. I’ve been vaccinated, but I have no problem with someone who doesn’t trust this vaccination because it hasn’t been fully approved by the FDA and would rather risk their life than have it. People should be able to choose whether or not to receive the vaccine.
And think of how this will hurt businesses who lose a good portion of their customer base because of these authoritarian rules. Businesses have already been struggling over the last year coping with the pandemic, and this is just going to make things worse. Not to mention they now have to have someone checking for a ‘vaccine passport’.
Honestly, what do I care if someone wants to eat in the same restaurant as me who’s unvaccinated? I’ve been vaccinated so even if I catch COVID, it will almost certainly be a mild case. People get sick all the time and you simply can’t protect against these kinds of things without onerous and fascistic rules, taking away people’s individual liberty.
I hope restaurants and gyms affected by this sue the city.
