Actress Amber Heard set herself up for some backlash after a tweet about an ICE checkpoint backfired for being deemed racist.
Heard warned her Twitter followers about an ICE checkpoint near her home in a tweet Tuesday which left many wondering what the 32-year-old actress was even thinking.
“Just heard there’s an ICE checkpoint in Hollywood, a few blocks from where I live. Everyone better give their housekeepers, nannies and landscapers a ride home tonight…” read the since-deleted tweet.

The reaction was almost instant as the “Aquaman” actress was lit up for what many saw as racist and insensitive.

She followed up with another tweet within a few minutes, trying to clarify her political point.
Checkpoints on your home streets…. Is this the “great” America we’re aiming for? Raids, fences and police-state like checkpoints don’t feel like the ‘land of the free’ our immigrant ancestors built.

While some appreciated her stand against ICE and President Trump’s immigration policies, others were not so forgiving, calling out the former wife of Hollywood star Johnny Depp for liberal “elitism.”
How does it feel that EVERYONE knows that you reduced immigrants to scrubbing your toilets and mowing your grass. The “tolerant” celebrities are the worst offenders of racism after all. Funny.

I think the “great” America we are aiming for, is one where people don’t assume landscapers, nannies, and housekeepers are illegal immigrants.

Housekeepers, nannies and gardeners. Sounds like elitism to me. #FirstWorld

Yeah, you wouldn’t want to lose the cheap labor now would you? Rich white woman and her underpaid brown workers. Deleting the tweet doesn’t change what you said. pic.twitter.com/G65FItsjmr
