Climate change has been called the most serious crisis facing humans and the planet.
Since the 1970s there’s been a well-documented rise in the global temperature. Scientists who support the climate change theory – and that’s 97 percent of them, according to NASA – believe this rise is due to humans. This is bad news for just about every living thing on the planet. But all isn’t lost, as there are things we can do to combat climate change.
Former Vice President of the USA and environmentalist Al Gore sat down with LADbible to chat about climate change, his new film An Inconvenient Sequel: Truth to Power, current President Donald Trump and saving the planet.
He said: “We’re putting, still, 110 million tonnes of man-made global warming pollution into the sky every day. It’s a big planet but that’s an enormous amount of energy. It’s driving temperatures up, warming up the oceans, disrupting the water cycles, melting the ice and affecting sea levels, moving tropical diseases further up north, creating droughts and disrupting agriculture.”
Naturally, when faced with something as big as climate change – or the climate crisis as Al calls it – it’s easy to feel small and unable to make a real difference. However, the former VP believes that we have the solutions and that it’s young people who will drive the change here.

In an inspirational speech, he tells LADbible: “Young people have the key role. This climate movement change is in the tradition of other great morally based movements that have advanced the cause of human-kind.”
Al was the focus of 2006 Oscar-winning documentary An Inconvenient Truth, which followed him on his campaign to educate US citizens about global warming. The film itself would go on to do this for many more thousands around the world.
A second movie, An Inconvenient Sequel: Truth to Power, directed by Bonni Cohen and Jon Shenk, follows Al’s efforts to take on climate change and his attempts to persuade government leaders to get behind renewable energy. This culminated in the signing of the Paris agreement, which saw 195 countries agreeing to deal with greenhouse gas emissions mitigations.
President Donald Trump announced his intentions to withdraw the US from the agreement earlier this year.
On the topic of the current POTUS, who has previously said that ‘global warming was created by and for the Chinese in order to make US manufacturing non-competitive’, Al would offer just one piece of advice: “Resign.” Brutal.
