It’s been less than a month and Donald Trump is already hard and fast at work. His first victories being the acceptance of his cabinet nominees. Among those are Senator Jeff Sessions, Rex Tillerson, Scott Pruit, and Betsy DeVos.
Now the President and his administration are moving on to the next big thing. Their focus now remains on the gender neutral bathroom bills the former administration tried ramming down our throats.
Many people have been publically opposed to these bills for numerous reasons. Some feared for their safety while others felt that teenagers would be placed in uncomfortable situations due to the vague guidelines about who can use the bathroom and who can’t.
Reportedly, the Department of Justice is seeking to roll back the rules that allowed anyone to use the bathroom of their choice. Meaning men couldn’t use women’s bathrooms if they say their gender is a woman. And women could use men’s bathrooms if they say their gender is male.
Mara Keisling has spoken out about it. She is the executive director of the National Center for Transgender Equality. In her case, she is vociferously opposed to these rollbacks and the elimination of rules that she deems are equal rights under the law for LGBTQ people. In fact, she spoke to the Huffington Post about it saying the following,
“We saw this coming, and it’s not a surprise, but the Trump administration is a mess. They take on the people they perceive as the weakest first. I don’t think they understand how strong we are.”
She insisted this is an indication the White House does not want to enforce Title IX at all. Which is nothing more than fear mongering as the President and his administration have done and will not do any such thing.
Oddly enough women are upset that the White House wants to ensure men don’t walk into female bathrooms. What happened to toppling the patriarchy?
