According to reports, 911 outages impacted the entire state of South Dakota Wednesday evening.

Las Vegas also reported major 911 system outages.

“911 systems are experiencing widespread outages in both Las Vegas and the entire state of South Dakota The reason for the outage is currently unknown, and there is no timeline for it to be restored,” journalist Nick Sortor wrote.

Per Rapid City Journal:

Emergency 911 services were down across the state of South Dakota earlier Wednesday evening, according to multiple alerts from authorities.

A post to the social media platform X by the Rapid City Police Department along with pushed notifications form emergency services alerted people across Pennington County at about 8 p.m.

“911 SERVICES DOWN STATEWIDE: South Dakota State Radio has advised us that 911 services are currently down statewide,” the post read. “For residents of Rapid City or Pennington County, 605-394-4131 or 605-394-2151 can be used to contact dispatch for assistance from first responders.”

The alert form Pennington County Emergency Management pushed to cell phones across the county also listed the same phone numbers to call in case of an emergency.

“Las Vegas police and Nevada State Police said 911 phone service has been restored,” KTNV Las Vegas noted.

From KTNV Las Vegas:

All of the individuals who called during the outage have been called back and provided assistance.

Non-emergency calls are also working.

In addition to South Dakota and Las Vegas, 911 outages are being reported nationwide.

“Currently, mysterious widespread outages are occurring across the nation, including the whole state of South Dakota and Nebraska, parts of Nevada, Texas, Iowa, Florida, Wisconsin, and Kentucky. Officials report major disruptions in 911 services, preventing emergency calls from getting through,” Rawsalerts wrote.

“The cause of this outage remains unknown at this time as officials are actively investigating. This situation is still developing with more outages occurring,” the post added.

Rawsalerts noted:

Here, all 911 systems are now reported to be down, affecting all or parts of at least ten states, which are reportedly experiencing widespread outages. These outages are having an effect

• Minnesota
• New England
• Texas
• Florida
• Nebraska statewide
• Nevada
• South Dakota statewide
• Iowa
• Kentucky
• Wisconsin

There is no official explanation yet for the ongoing outage as it’s unclear whether it’s due to a possible cyber-attack or some other cause for the 911 outages as this is still developing

“South Dakota 911 Services has been Restored 9 other states are still experiencing outages at this time,” Rawsalerts said in an update.

“911 Emergency services in Southern Nevada have been restored so far eight other states are still experiencing outages at this time.”

Some X users speculated if a possible cyberattack is underway.

Per ABC News:

At least six cities in four different states across the United States reported experiencing 911 call outages Wednesday evening, according to officials.

The entire statewide emergency calling system in South Dakota experienced an outage, Pierre police confirmed to ABC News.

Sioux Falls police encouraged residents in South Dakota to call 605-367-7000 if they were experiencing an emergency.

Las Vegas, Nevada, also experienced an outage, though not reported statewide. Police in Henderson, Nevada, urged residents to text 911 if experiencing an emergency.

“Rapid SOS is working. If you call we will see your number and call you right back,” Henderson Police Department posted on Facebook.

Dundy County, Nebraska, and surrounding areas were experiencing outages the sheriff’s office said on Facebook. The non-emergency line was working as well as 911 texting, police said.

Multiple cities in Texas also had outages, including Del Rio and Kilgore.
