“There are a lot of unanswered questions here,” Rep. Mike Johnson (R-La.), a member of the House Judiciary Committee, said Tuesday, as he listed some of his concerns about the discovery of classified material found at President Joe Biden’s Wilmington home.
“What we’re seeing is another glaring example of the Biden Department of Justice applying justice based on politics. There’s no other way to see this. There are a lot of questions that our — I believe our select committee and certainly on my House Judiciary Committee are going to go after,” Johnson told Fox News’s Neil Cavuto.
“The logs and who visited that house are critically important. If they didn’t write it down anywhere, Neil, we’re going to have to seek those answers some other way. We may have to subpoena members of the Biden family and others who may have worked at the residence to find out who was there.
“Why? Because we had critical, very highly sensitive classified information there. And among the people who listed that as a residence, by the way, is Hunter Biden himself in recent years. So we have a lot to seek answers to. And if the DOJ will not supply it, we will have to get it another way.”
Johnson said it’s obvious that Biden family members were in and out of the Wilmington house where the documents were discovered in the garage and in Biden’s library.
“But the question is, who accompanied the family members?” Johnson asked.
The Wall Street Journal was first to report on Tuesday that the Justice Department considered sending FBI agents to President Joe Biden’s Delaware home to monitor his attorneys’ search for classified documents, but decided against it.
Johnson also asked about the timing — “when they (DOJ) knew about this.”
“Did they withhold this information until after the midterm election? That seems obvious on its face. We have got to get down to the bottom of this, and it will take our committees investigating on our own to do it.”
Johnson said he and Judiciary Committee Chairman Jim Jordan sent a letter to Attorney General Merrick Garland a few days ago, giving him until January 27 to comply and provide us that information. “If he doesn’t, we will continue…this story is not going away anytime soon.”
Timeline of discovery and disclosure of classified documents in Biden’s possession:
November 2: Biden’s attorney find classified documents while cleaning out his office at the Biden Penn Center in Washington, D.C.
November 4: The National Archives Office of Inspector General notified the Department of Justice that documents with classified markings were discovered at the Penn Biden Center.
November 8: Election day in the USA.
November 9: DOJ begins investigation into alleged mishandling of classified information.
Nov. 14: Attorney General Merrick Garland assigns U.S. Attorney John Lausch to decide if a special counsel should be appointed.
December 20: Biden’s attorneys find more classified documents in Biden’s Wilmington home, stored in the garage.
January 5: Lausch recommends that Garland appoint a special counsel;
January 9: CBS News breaks the news that classified documents were discovered in Biden’s office on Nov. 2 at the think tank funded by University of Pennsylvania.
January 10: Biden, in Mexico City, makes his first comments on the Nov. 2 discovery, saying nothing about the second batch found in his home on Dec. 20.
January 11: Lawyers find one more classified document in Biden’s library, in addition to the ones found in the garage on Dec. 20.
January 12: AG Merrick Garland announces the appointment of Robert Hur as special counsel
Later on January 12: Biden’s lawyers find another five classified documents at his Wilmington home, in the library.
January 14: The White House announced the discovery of the additional five documents.
