A former police officer in Thailand opened fire at the Utai Sawan child care facility in Thailand on Thursday, killing 24 children, and 11 adults. He then drove to his own home and killed his wife and child before turning the gun on himself. Australian news reports that the man went on a shooting and stabbing spree after realizing his own step-son was not at the facility when he arrived. The age range of children at the center was 2 to 5.

Panya Khamrab was disgraced after a drug offense was indicated during his time as a police officer. He was facing a trial for those drug charges. He had been in court that morning, and went on the killing spree when he saw that his step-son was not at the day care.
Murder by any other name
About 30 children were at the facility when the attacker arrived, fewer than usual, as heavy rain had kept many people away, district official Jidapa Boonsom, who was working in a nearby office at the time…
“The shooter came in around lunch time and shot four or five officials at the childcare centre first,” Jidapa told Reuters.
At first people thought the shots were fireworks, she said: “It’s really shocking. We were very scared and running to hide once we knew it was shooting. So many children got killed, I’ve never seen anything like it.”
The attacker forced his way into a locked room where the children were sleeping, Jidapa said. She said she thought he killed children there with a knife, adding that a teacher who was eight months pregnant was also stabbed to death. Reuters
Mass murder is the product of a deranged mind, an has nothing whatever to do with gun control. America grieved the deaths of 19 children at Uvalde, Texas (2022), Russia wept over school children in Izhevsk (2022), and Norway grieved the deaths of 69 people by a mass murderer in 2011. Thailand now joins the sorrow as children left at a daycare for their protection and safety were needlessly slaughtered.
