Federal investigators have been looking into Hunter Biden’s finances, including millions of dollars worth of transactions and money transfers linked to countries like Ukraine, China, and Russia, starting in 2018.
Some of the files on Hunter’s “laptop from hell” have been investigated for “possible violations of tax, money laundering, and foreign-lobbying laws.”
A Wilmington grand jury has been compiling evidence in the case. An eyewitness was even asked to identify the “big guy” mentioned during conversations concerning Biden’s Chinese business deal, according to the New York Post in early April.
Sources told the news outlet that a piece of evidence presented to the grand jury for this individual prompted the question. Although the answer was not revealed, some have claimed the “big guy” is President Biden, raising the possibility of Biden being subjected to a federal criminal investigation.
Last week, several 4Chan users alleged that they gained access to vast amounts of information about Joe Biden’s son after a hack of Hunter Biden’s iCloud account was reported. The Secret Service is keeping track of the claims.
The Washington Examiner reported Sunday that screenshots were posted late Saturday that appeared to be taken from Hunter Biden’s phone and computer. Verification of the claims was not possible. Later, material allegedly obtained from the hack was removed from the threads.
“At this time we are not in a position to make public comments on potential investigative actions but I can assure you the Secret Service along with other federal law enforcement partners are aware of the social media posts and claims referencing Mr. Biden,” said Anthony Guglielmi of the Secret Service, according to NBC.
When the contents of a laptop computer formerly belonging to Hunter Biden were publicly disclosed, NBC couldn’t independently verify whether the claim was accurate, or whether material accessed had been previously released.
Hunter Biden’s iCloud account was synchronized to his MacBook Pro and iPhone, according to a forensic examination of the laptop performed for the Examiner by Konstantinos Dimitrelos, a former Secret Service agent specializing in digital forensics.

Republican Sen. Chuck Grassley of Iowa, the ranking Republican on the Senate Judiciary Committee, said on Monday that there are serious unanswered questions swirling around the Hunter Biden investigation. The investigation is headed by David Weiss, the U.S. Attorney for Delaware. Hunter Biden is reportedly under investigation for his compliance with tax laws.
According to Grassley, he and Johnson, ranking Republican on the Senate Permanent Committee on Investigations, asked Weiss whether “he’s received sufficient resources and support from the Justice Department to properly execute the Hunter Biden case.”
Grassley noted that Weiss never replied to his May letter, other than through Attorney General Merrick Garland.
“The failure of Mr. Weiss to answer that very important question adds to the growing congressional and public concern that the Justice Department is pulling its punches in the Hunter Biden case,” Grassley wrote.
There is a wall of silence around Hunter Biden’s case, according to Grassley.
“On July 30, 2021, and June 28, 2022, Senator Johnson and I wrote to the White House Counsel. We wrote about then-Vice President Biden’s use of non-government email to transmit government information to Hunter Biden. The White House Counsel’s office refuses to answer whether President Biden still communicates government business to Hunter Biden, among other questions we posed,” he stated.
“More stonewalling,” Grassley proclaimed.
Grassley concluded his review of past investigations into Hunter Biden’s foreign dealings by saying, “For years, my Democratic colleagues levied complaints against the Trump administration’s Justice Department for a lack of transparency. Where are they now?”
In Grassley’s view, it is essential to expose the full truth about the Hunter Biden investigation.
“Congress has a constitutional responsibility to ensure the proper execution of, and compliance with, conflicts of interest laws and regulations,” Grassley declared.
“The failure of the Justice Department to comply with these rules will cause political infection to run rampant. That’ll rot the core of the Justice Department and cast a cloud over everything that it does,” he added.
“As I’ve said before, the Justice Department’s failure to be transparent with the Hunter Biden criminal case, and recusals relating to it, has cast a cloud over this investigation. What is the Justice Department trying to hide? The American people’s concerns about how the case has been managed are legitimate,” he emphasized.
Legal experts say the emergence of President Biden’s voicemail from 2018 about Hunter Biden’s China business activities raises questions about the federal investigation of the first son. At the same time, Republican lawmakers are promising congressional hearings.
According to former Justice Department prosecutor Jim Trusty, the case is “a huge integrity test” for both the FBI and the Attorney General.
“Will they walk away from powerful evidence? Will they come up with a soft plea — like a tax charge — that does not remotely capture the actual wrongdoing?” he asked.
“Or will they treat Hunter Biden like any other white-collar defendant in the federal system?”
