Nancy Pelosi, on Tuesday the 1st of March, shared an image on her Twitter page that should be disturbing to everyone who thinks that the main job of a representative is to defend the interests of their American constituents rather than some globalist project or oligarchy abroad.
Declaring “The Congress remains unwavering and resolute in our support for the people of Ukraine. We are committed to providing humanitarian and security assistance to Ukraine, as Russia wages its unprovoked and premeditated war,” Pelosi shared an image of her and other reps, including Dan Crenshaw, holding a desecrated version of the American flag:

As you can see if you look closely, the bottom half of Old Glory’s red and white stripes have been replaced with the blue and yellow stripes meant to symbolize the Ukrainian flag. Additionally, half the stars were changed to the Ukrainian coat of arms.
For starters, the flag code provides that “The flag of the United States shall have thirteen horizontal stripes, alternate red and white, and a union consisting of white stars on a field of blue.”
Modifying the flag in this manner, particularly replacing the stripes of Old Glory with the blue and yellow of Ukraine, getting rid of half the stars and replacing them with the Ukrainian coat of arms, that’s desecration.
Further, what it’s meant to symbolize is absurd; most Americans are against Russia’s invasion of the Ukraine, as is right. But are we really to treat some oligarchy halfway around the world as the same as Ohio? Are we to treat the Russian tanks rolling through the wheat fields of Ukraine as if they’re rumbling through the cornfields of Nebraska?
That’s what their ridiculous desecration of the American flag symbolizes; uniting the Ukraine and United States as one, treating an attack on the Ukraine as an attack on America. That’s a step too far.
Twitter, as could be expected, savaged those involved in the stunt.
Conservative commentator Matt Walsh, for example, said “Desecrating our flag to own Putin“. In the image he shared, the modifications to the flag and Crenshaw can be better seen:

But it wasn’t just conservative blue-checks. Average Americans expressed their displeasure with this desecration of the flag. One, for example, said:

Another pointed out a different violation of the flag code, saying:

Another, expressing frustration with what the combined flag is meant to represent, said:

The American flag is the American flag. The Ukraine, whatever its current predicament, isn’t and shouldn’t be involved. It’s sad that so many lawmakers don’t seem to grasp the country they’re meant to represent.
