Reps. Louie Gohmert, Matt Gaetz, Marjorie Taylor Greene, and Paul Gosar, together with a small group of Republican members of Congress, traveled to the DC correctional facility that houses the January 6th detainees and requested a tour to observe their conditions. They did this since the administration has so far refused to give them any information regarding the facility.
According to Louie Gohmert, they showed their IDs and were eventually told they’d need to wear masks, which they readily complied with. After a a few minutes, a woman came out and told them her supervisor says they were trespassing. They argued that as members of Congress they have oversight and should be able to at least tour the facility, but to no avail. When they asked to speak to the woman’s supervisor, they were told to wait.
Eventually the same woman walked out of the building and Gohmert was told she was the supervisor. They followed her outside, only for her to circle back into the building and lock the doors, according to Gohmert.
Several detainees have spoken out against alleged torture to January 6 protesters within the facility, as we covered at enVolve during the previous month. The fact that they refuse to let members of Congress see the facility and observe the conditions inside only gives credence to those assertions.
