As predicted, Elise Stefanik easily won the vote this morning to be the GOP conference chair, replacing the disgraced Liz Cheney.

NY POST reported that House Republicans approved Rep. Elise Stefanik to their No. 3 leadership position Friday — officially voting her into the post after Rep. Liz Cheney was forced out this week.

Stefanik’s (R-NY) 134-46 victory was all but assured before the vote because she came into the meeting with former President Donald Trump’s support and no serious challenger.

Rep. Chip Roy (R-Texas) tried but failed to gain traction with his campaign. Rep. Mike Johnson (R-La. ), the vice chair of the House GOP Conference, was also reportedly interested in the position but decided not to run.

Former President Trump, House Minority Leader Kevin McCarthy (R-Calif.), Minority Whip Steve Scalise (R-La.), and Rep. Jim Jordan (R-Ohio) all endorsed the New York Republican, who previously chaired the moderate Tuesday Group and rose to prominence as one of Trump’s top defenders during the first impeachment proceedings.
