Sen. Lindsey Graham has requested documents from Secretary of State Mike Pompeo related to former Vice President Joe Biden’s dealings with Ukraine.
In a letter Thursday, Graham asked Pompeo to release communications between Biden and Ukrainian President Petro Poroshenko, The Washington Post reported.
Graham’s inquiry centers around allegations that the firing of Ukraine’s top prosecutor came at the behest of then-Vice President in order to end an investigation into Burisma, a Ukrainian energy company.
Joe Biden’s son, Hunter Biden, served on Burisma’s board at the time.
President Donald Trump has defended his own Ukraine dealings, which have become the subject of an impeachment inquiry, by claiming that he was concerned about potential corruption involving the Bidens and Burisma.
Meanwhile, House Democrats in September launched an impeachment inquiry over Trump’s efforts to get Ukraine’s new government to investigate Biden’s dealings with the country. Trump has said he did nothing wrong and accused Democrats of waging a partisan campaign to oust him from office.
Trump and his allies have alleged that Biden, who is running for the 2020 Democratic presidential nomination, acted to benefit his son.
Joe Biden has denied the accusation, saying he was simply carrying out Obama administration policy in an effort to bolster Ukraine against Russian aggression.
