Yesterday, former Vice President Joe Biden announced he was running for the Democrat nomination to take on Donald Trump in 2020. This morning he was on Good Morning America. The subject of impeachment came up.
Joe Biden tells @GMA Congress is investigating elements “left undone” by special counsel Mueller.
“If in fact they block the investigation, they have no alternative but to go to the only other constitutional resort they have, [which] is impeachment.” https://t.co/YS6D0nsVmt pic.twitter.com/KUqWzPHZ7v

There are elements of the report … about seven or eight things that are left undone, he was not within his purview to investigate, he thought. The Congress is attempting to take that up.
If in fact they block the investigation, they have no alternative but to go to the only other constitutional resort they have, [which] is impeachment. But my job, in the meantime, is to make sure he’s not back as president of the United States.
Right now it is pretty obvious that the administration is not going to cooperate with any of the House Democrat investigations. And they shouldn’t. This is not a conflict between two equal branches of government (the term “co-equal” really chaps my ass, what does that even mean?), this is a conflict between the Executive and a handful of House Democrats. President Trump is under no moral or ethical obligation to indulge their little jihad. Whether or not he has a legal obligation to humor them remains to be seen…and the answer to that question will not be apparent until after November 3, 2020.
To a great extent Biden did the Democrat leadership in the House no favors. After Mueller returned a finding that no one in the Trump campaign sought or accepted help from the Russian government and the empirical finding that the Russian interference was not sufficient to change votes (particularly votes in Michigan, Pennsylvania, and Wisconsin), the Democrats are left with “obstruction.” Their investigations are focused on creating a drumbeat of scandal that increases in volume the closer we get to the 2020 election. They know, and the public is telling them, that no one is interested in impeaching President Trump for merely being angry about the investigation and because of that Nancy Pelosi and Steny Hoyer have been trying to tamp down impeachment talk. But impeachment is very popular with the Democrat’s radical twitterati base and with a handful of far left members of Congress from very safe, deep Blue districts.
Talking up impeachment is just going to make Pelosi’s job all that much harder and it is going to sharpen the divide between Democrats who won Pink-to-Purple districts in 2018 and their Bolsheik brethren.
