The left is reeling over one of the most publicized hate crime hoaxes in years, but a shocking new video suggests that leftists have no problem committing real political violence when it suits them.
On Thursday, Campus Reform shared footage of an attack which took place at the University of California-Berkeley. According to that outlet, a conservative student in a public area of the college was assaulted in the face several times while manning a booth for the young conservative group Turning Point USA.
WARNING: Video contains violence and explicit language.
“Video footage obtained exclusively by Campus Reform shows Hayden Williams, a Leadership Institute field representative, was punched multiple times by an unidentified person calling him a ‘racist…b*tch,’” the report stated.
“(A)t least twice, the situation turned violent and now, police are asking for help in identifying the suspects,” Campus Reform continued.
Video from multiple angles certainly appears to confirm that account. An attacker who has not yet been identified can be seen becoming irate and shouting hateful words at the conservative student, who tries his best to de-escalate the situation.
Then the leftist begins throwing punches, with at least one of them landing on the student’s face. At another point, the attacker can be heard aggressively threatening to “shoot” the student.
And bystanders at the famously left-wing university campus? They seemed to be completely fine with a violent political assault taking place against a conservative as they watched.
“Some students nearby tabling were laughing, even one guy was smiling while I was being attacked and trying to hand me his flyer as a joke,” Williams told Campus Reform.
“The idea is free speech has consequences…. which include you getting assaulted if they find you promoting ideas others don’t agree with,” he continued.
In addition to the eye-opening video, witness accounts appear to also back the conservative’s version of events.
“As I approached the table I could see our TPUSA pins all over the floor, our signs were torn apart, Hayden’s eye was red, and his nose was bleeding,” one student said.
An alert from the University of California Police Department also confirmed that authorities were looking for the attacker seen in the video.
“According to the police, an unknown, unidentified assailant attacked a Berkeley student engaged in political advocacy,” Chancellor Carol Christ and Vice Chancellor for Student Affairs Stephen Sutton said in a joint statement from the university.
“Let there be no mistake, we strongly condemn violence and harassment of any sort, for any reason. That sort of behavior is intolerable and has no place here. Our commitment to freedom of expression and belief is unwavering,” they said.
This incident is particularly interesting in light of liberal actor Jussie Smollett’s arrest for allegedly perpetrating a hate crime hoax. After claiming that he was “lynched” by Trump supporters shouting “MAGA” slogans in Chicago, Smollet’s story collapsed and the investigation turned to him personally.
Will the same voices who jumped to believe Smollett — including California liberals Kamala Harris and Nancy Pelosi — say a single word about this apparent anti-conservative assault that took place in their own state?
Don’t hold your breath. In today’s media and political climate, outrage over political assaults only seems to work one way … and that is a true shame.
