Former FBI Director James Comey dodged a question on Friday about whether he had confidence in the anti-Trump dossier that was used to obtain a surveillance warrant on members of the Trump campaign, insisting that any notion that the FISA system was abused was “nonsense.”
Comey made the remarks following a hearing in front of Congress where he “declined to answer questions about a range of matters because of special counsel Robert Mueller’s ongoing investigation into Russian interference in the 2016 elections,” CNN reported.
“Did you have total confidence in the dossier when you used it to secure a surveillance warrant and also in the subsequent renewals?” a reporter asked Comey.
“I have total confidence that the FISA process was followed and that the entire case was handled in a thoughtful responsible way by DOJ and the FBI,” Comey responded. “I think that the notion that FISA was abused here is nonsense.”
