Vice President Mike Pence defiantly faced hordes of anti-Kavanaugh protesters Saturday after presiding over Justice Brett Kavanaugh’s confirmation vote in the Senate.
Following the vote tally, Pence and his security detail exited the Capitol Building to return to his motorcade which was parked at the bottom of the steps. The vice president initially hesitated after hearing the crowd of protesters screaming and shouting “Shame! Shame! Shame!,” according to Chad Pergram of Fox News.
“Pence stands for a moment in [the] Senate doorway, indecisive, with protesters hollering. Pence then reverses course to exit [the] Capitol another way,” Pergram explained on Twitter. “Pence walks a few steps, pivots and says ‘let’s do it’.”
Pence continued down the steps politely waving at the protesters.

The Senate confirmed Kavanaugh to the Supreme Court with a final vote of 50 to 48. He was sworn in during a private ceremony a few hours later by Chief Justice John Roberts and retired Justice Anthony Kennedy.
