RINOS With A DEATHWISH Join Dems In Protecting Mueller’s Job

A group of Democrat senators is introducing legislation to protect special counsel Robert Mueller from being fired.

Some Republicans with a political deathwish are joining the effort.

South Carolina Sen. Lindsey Graham and Sen. Thom Tillis of North Carolina joined Democrats, Sen. Cory Booker of New Jersey and Delaware’s Christopher Coons, in introducing the Special Counsel Independence and Integrity Act on Wednesday, The Hill reported.

According to The Hill:

The legislation would let Mueller, or any other special counsel, receive an “expedited judicial review” within 10 days of being fired to determine if it was for a “good cause.” If it was determined it wasn’t, he would be reinstated.

It would also codify regulations that only a senior Justice Department official can fire a special counsel and that they must provide the reason in writing.

“We need to ensure not only that special counsel Mueller can complete his work without interference, but that special counsels in future investigations can, too,” Coons said.

The “compromise bipartisan bill helps ensure that special counsels — present or future — have the independence they need to conduct fair and impartial investigations,” Tillis said.

The proposed bill comes in the wake of an FBI raid Monday on the hotel room and offices of President Trump’s personal attorney, Michael Cohen which was apparently prompted by a referral from Mueller’s team. Trump blasted the FBI and the Mueller probe as “a total witch hunt,” in a tweet while declaring “Attorney–client privilege is dead!” in another.

When asked by reporters if he would consider firing Mueller, Trump responded, “We’ll see what happens.”

Senate Majority Leader Mitch McConnell dismissed the legislation to protect Mueller as unnecessary.

“I haven’t seen a clear indication yet that we needed to pass something to keep him from being removed because I don’t think that’s going to happen, and that remains my view,” McConnell told reporters Tuesday, according to The Hill.

Similar legislation was proposed last year by Tillis and Coons but did move forward.

Booker and Graham also proposed a bill that would require Justice Department requests to fire special counsels to be approved by a judge.

So-called Republicans like Graham and Tillis seem to be living in an alternate universe where they think attacking Trump while defending Mueller will win GOP votes in November. Conservatives on Twitter gave them a wake up call.
