Ret. Army Col. Kurt Schlichter recently touched on that notion in a fiery Op-Ed for Townhall titled, “They Take the Second Amendment First and the First Amendment Second.” The piece highlighted how the left seeks to subjugate “Normal” Americans and transform them from free citizens to suppressed subjects.

He argued that progressives won’t be content to stop at simply doing away with the Second Amendment, but will immediately attack the First Amendment as well, since, “They don’t want you to speak freely. They don’t want you to have access to a free press. They don’t want you to practice your religion as you see fit.”
Of course, there are those who scoff at such warnings and protest that such an eventuality could never happen in a free country, but Schlichter merely points to our once-free cousins across the Atlantic in the United Kingdom. Despite the fact that they submitted to the sort of gun control measures liberals assure us will create a violence-free Utopia, the British are now witnessing a surge in knife crime and have seen London’s murder ratetop that of New York City.
