Democrats should know by now that it’s anything but politics-as-usual with Trump.
They’re dealing here with a shrewd businessman, and most of the Democratic leadership was woefully unprepared when it negotiated the omnibus spending bill with Trump.

Immediately following the negotiations, top Democratic leaders like Nancy Pelosi hailed a great “victory” over the Trump agenda because they had squashed any direct funding for the president’s advanced Mexico border wall.
But Trump was playing at a whole other level.
Yes, he conceded any direct funding for the border wall, but he used that concession to get even more funding for the military.
The Democrats agreed.
Now, Trump’s pushing for the military to use that extra money to, you guessed it, fund the border wall.
He has suggested to Defense Secretary Jim Mattis and congressional leaders that the Pentagon could fund the sprawling project, citing a “national security” risk.
After floating the notion to several advisers last week, Trump told House Speaker Paul D. Ryan (R-Wis.) that the military should pay for the wall, according to three people familiar with the meeting last Wednesday in the White House residence.
Pelosi, Schumer and their ilk have got to be livid right now.
Trump managed to get them to give all the money he needs for the border wall they so oppose, and then some.
