Sheriff Arpaio Takes Aim At Jeff Flake, What He Said Next Put A Smile On Trump’s Face

Former Arizona Sheriff Joe Arpaio will run for the Senate seat which will be vacated by Jeff Flake in 2018, the Washington Examiner reports.

Arpaio was pardoned by President Donald Trump in August 2017 after he was convicted of disregarding a court order with respect to alleged racial profiling. Arpaio was an enthusiastic supporter of Trump’s candidacy and backed his 2011 claims that former President Barack Obama was not born in the U.S.

“I am outspoken. I’m looking forward to it. Let them come. They’ll have their political firing squads and bring tons of money here, because they don’t want to lose,” Arpaio told The Examiner, adding “I just want to do everything I can to support our president.”

The former sheriff is 85 years old and would be one of the oldest ever first term Senators in congressional history. Arpaio will face off with Arizona state Senator Kelli Ward and likely candidate Congresswoman Martha McSally.
