Glenn Simpson, the founder of Democratic opposition research firm Fusion GPS, testified before the Senate Judiciary Committee. Senator Dianne Feinstein released that testimony on Tuesday.
The testimony covers the Trump dossier memo, the Buzzfeed reportage leak, and a number of spectacular claims from Simpson himself. The Fusion GPS founder asserts, via ex-spy Christopher Steele, that the FBI had an agent within the Trump campaign that was feeding the agency information.
As the Washington Post reported:
The ex-British spy who authored a dossier of allegations against then-presidential candidate Donald Trump was told the FBI had someone inside Trump’s network providing agents with information, according to a newly-released transcript of a congressional interview.
Glenn R. Simpson, founder of research firm Fusion GPS, spoke to investigators with the Senate Judiciary Committee for 10 hours in August. As the partisan fight over Russian interference in the 2016 election has intensified, Simpson has urged that his testimony be released, and a copy of the transcript was made public Tuesday.
It was released by the ranking Democrat on the Senate Judiciary Committee, Sen. Dianne Feinstein of California. That decision marks the most serious break yet in the once cooperative relationship she has had with the Republican chairman of the committee, Sen. Charles E. Grassley (R-Iowa).
The reaction on social media was explosive:

Fusion GPS lawyer confirms on the record (to NYT) what we already knew: that Glenn Simpson was w/ Natalia Veselnitskaya on morning of Trump Tower meeting. But Natalia denied that in testimony submitted to Senate. https://t.co/0B9tSF8xDJ pic.twitter.com/wFADrFDLHT

Senate Judiciary Committee transcript of Glenn Simpson’s testimony released by Feinstein. Fusion GPS will claim “transparency” as Simpson refused to answer key questions while key info is redacted. Here are some examples from the transcript https://t.co/ms9Q1VEHoU pic.twitter.com/reSF2QXz6M

So, Glenn Simpson is saying, that in a company that has TWELVE people, he doesn’t remember whether he has ever had a client who has tied compensation to them landing a government investigation…Because 7 years is a LONG time???

Great spot by Tom: One of Glenn Simpson’s attorneys says one of the sources for the Trump dossier has already been killed. https://t.co/QDVE3C8fPz

And… from Feinstein’s release of Simpson testimony, this is why the Steele Dossier furore is so negative. As I’ve hinted here (https://t.co/eNQW2PFreS) there is an active concern of compromising SIS assets. (cc @jimsciutto) pic.twitter.com/d7Y1XIGFPx

According to the testimony, a source was killed over the Trump dossier:
This raises the question of why Sen. Dianne Feinstein published this excerpt, rather than redacting it.
Fusion GPS was hired by the Hillary Clinton campaign to conduct opposition research on Donald Trump. The discredited “Trump dossier,” which made a number of salacious and unverified claims about Donald Trump, was shopped around the mainstream media before being published by Buzzfeed News.
The Trump dossier became the basis of months of Russian collusion speculation, which has become an obsession of the mainstream media and has cost taxpayers millions of dollars.
