There’s a reason that one of President Trump’s main campaign promises was draining the “swamp” that Washington, DC has become.
Absolutely staggering amounts of money are wasted on the most ridiculous things, even as Democrats complain about a lack of funds for their pet projects.
For instance, during Barack Obama’s second term, the Social Security Administration spent a whopping $32 MILLION of taxpayers’ dollars on “work conferences.”
Seriously, work conferences. For the Social Security Administration.
Can anyone think of a more wasteful use of federal funds?

The inspector general for the agency reported that just over 300 conferences cost taxpayers roughly $100,000 each in travel, meals, and lodging expenses during a three-year period.
“On average, in fiscal years 2013 through 2016, SSA spent $742 per attendee on conferences,” the inspector general said.
Government conferences covered the cost of transportation, lodging, meals, and incidentals. The SSA also paid for guest speakers, totaling $2.4 million over a four-year period.
