The boycott movement against President Donald Trump and his family are intended to inflict harm, but all they have done is demonstrate how childish those behind the boycotts are.
Nordstrom and Burlington might have thought they were proving a point when they decided to stop selling Ivanka Trump merchandise, but Trump supporters are showing them that maybe they should keep politics out of business.
Case in point: Ivanka Trump’s line of women’s fragrances reached the number one spot on Amazon’s women’s fragrances best sellers list.
Ivanka Trump Eau de Parfum Spray For Women, which sells for $34 for a 3.4-ounce bottle, sat the number one spot today, and IVANKA TRUMP For Women 0.20 Eau de Parfum Roller Ball, which sells for $15, was at the number two spot. These items are currently beating fragrances by Jennifer Lopez and Britney Spears, Vera Wang and Giorgio Armani.
The success of the perfume could suggest a resistance to boycotts against any products associated the Trump family, according to Fortune.
Those who want to hurt the Trumps with boycotts are learning that buyers have several options when it comes to purchasing products they want. Retailers might make Ivanka merchandise unavailable in their stores or on their websites to make a political point, but buyers have no obligation to remain loyal to them.
They can always turn to other outlets, such as Amazon, to get what they want — and it looks like that is exactly what they are doing.
By the way sales are taking off on Amazon, dropping Ivanka’s merchandise might be a financial mistake.
Liberals everywhere who have worked hard to destroy anything related to the Trump name must be livid when they realize that this movement has basically backfired.
