Due to the petulant antics of some notoriously anti-Trump parents, an elite Manhattan prep school has been forced to cancel an ice-skating party that had been scheduled at the Trump Wollman Rink in Central Park.
As reported by the New York Post, the Parents Association at The Dalton School claimed in a letter sent Thursday that “it would not be financially prudent” to continue with the party because of “significantly lower attendance.”
What happened was that once parents found out that the event was to be hosted at the skating rink, which played an important part in President Donald Trump’s personal and business history, they no longer wanted their children to attend.
The Trump Organization has operated the facility in a joint venture since Trump rebuilt the rink in the 1980s, in what the New York Post called a “defining moment” for the real estate magnate’s career.
And because the number of expected attendees dropped so precipitously, the event had to be shuttered.
“I think it is completely insane,” said one parent who disagreed with the protests. “Like [Trump] or not, it feels like a strange place for New Yorkers to protest. And sad that kids now have no skating party.”
The tragic irony is that by forcing the event to be canceled, the school’s parents have done more than just hurt the children and disrespect a president they despise.
They have also spit in the face of the very man who once saved the rink from impending disaster.
As reported by Forbes, during the 1980s the New York City government over $13 million trying but failing to refurbish the badly rundown rink. Then in 1986, Trump suddenly offered “to take over the construction and operation of the project for no profit and have it up and running in time for the holiday season.”
“Trump finished the job in just four months at a final cost 25 percent below the budget,” Forbes reported. “It wasn’t rocket science according to Trump. It was common sense and ‘management.’”
And just like Trump once fixed up that rink, he now intends to fix up the country — and for that, the liberal parents at The Dalton School, an elite academy whose alumni include CNN anchor Anderson Cooper, seemingly hate him.
It really is the height of absurdity, but hopefully, these parents’ children are too young to understand just how idiotic their parents have acting.
