Biden told Peter Doocy today that the report saying his administration is planning to pay illegals, separated under the Trump administration, upwards of $450k per person is garbage. He said “it ain’t gonna happen”:
But the ACLU has hit back at Biden, saying he doesn’t know what he’s talking about:
NY POST – President Biden “may not have been fully briefed about the actions of his very own Justice Department,” the ACLU charged Wednesday, after he labeled as “garbage” a news report that his administration is considering $450,000 per person payouts to families separated after illegally crossing the US-Mexico border.
In a statement, ACLU Executive Director Anthony Romero warned Biden that he risked “abandoning a core campaign promise to do justice for the thousands of separated families.
“We respectfully remind President Biden that he called these actions ‘criminal’ in a debate with then-President Trump, and campaigned on remedying and rectifying the lawlessness of the Trump administration,” Romero said. “We call on President Biden to right the wrongs of this national tragedy.”
When I heard Biden dismiss the report and say it wasn’t going to happen, I felt a little relieved. But after seeing this, I fully expect Biden to come out later and say he was wrong, that this is necessary and do an about face on the issue. Because that’s what he’s done in the past and he’ll do the same thing again.
I’ll be shocked if he actually sticks to his guns on this one.
