Sen. John Fetterman (D-PA) and his wife were hospitalized after a car crash Sunday morning.

The accident occurred around I-70 and I-68 in Hancock, Maryland.

According to Maryland State Police, Fetterman was driving a Chevrolet Traverse and rear-ended a Chevrolet Impala.

The Pennsylvania senator “reportedly had a minor shoulder injury,” The Daily Wire noted.

The Daily Wire reports:

The driver of the Impala was also taken to the hospital in an ambulance to be treated for their injuries. No status update was available on the driver.

Police have not officially said what caused the car accident as the incident is currently under investigation.

“On Sunday morning, John and Gisele were involved in a car accident with another driver,” Fetterman’s office claimed in a statement, according to FOX 29. “Out of an abundance of caution, they were evaluated at a local hospital. John was treated for a bruised shoulder and they were discharged that afternoon. They are doing well and happy to be back in Braddock.”

Fetterman has struggled with various health-related issues after he suffered a serious stroke in 2022, including crippling depression that led to him staying in a hospital.

After the crash, Fetterman and his wife were transported to War Memorial Hospital in Berkeley Springs, West Virginia.

From Daily Mail:

Since his stroke Fetterman has suffered from audio impairments that have resulted in his needing a phone or tablet-based transcriber to clearly understand colleagues and reporters while working on Capitol Hill.

This has resulted in the installation of a live closed captioning system at the Democrats Washington, D.C. desk.

He has been known to respond, at times, with half sentences to reporters’ questions.

The crash happened on the westbound route of Interstate 70 near Interstate 68, authorities said.

‘According to a preliminary investigation, a Chevrolet Traverse and a Chevrolet Impala were both traveling west on I-70 when for unknown reasons, the Traverse struck the rear of the Impala,’ a spokesperson for the Maryland State Police told DailyMail.com.

The collision happened just before 8 a.m. on Sunday morning.

“No citations were issued,” authorities said, according to Daily Mail. “The crash investigation remains active and ongoing,” they added.
