Texas Pardons Board Begins Investigation To Determine If They Will Send Pardon For Daniel Perry

The Texas Board of Pardons and Paroles announced Monday that they’re beginning their investigation into whether or not to pardon Army Sgt Daniel Perry “immediately” at Governor Greg Abbott’s request and will report back to the Governor as soon as a decision has been made.

From CBS Austin:

“Chairman [David] Gutierrez, the Presiding Officer of the Texas Board of Pardons and Paroles has received a request from Governor Abbott asking for an expedited investigation, along with a recommendation as to a pardon for U.S. Army Sergeant Daniel Perry,” Rachel Alderete, the director of support operations with the Board, said in a written statement. “The board will be commencing that investigation immediately. Upon completion, the board will report to the governor on the investigation and make recommendations to the governor.”

[…] Of note, the Board of Pardons and Paroles is not obligated to grant a pardon simply at the Governor’s request: the Board is made up of nonpartisan members, though they were appointed by the Governor.
