Vice President Kamala Harris was NOT informed prior to the Syrian airstrike and is reportedly “very upset about being left of of the loop,” per a White House official.
On Thursday, the U.S. has carried out an airstrike on a structure connected to an Iran-backed militia in Syria, following three separate rocket attacks against U.S. forces in Iraq.
These strikes came one month into his Presidency, after Biden spent the last 4 years promising he wouldn’t start any wars in the Middle East or bomb sovereign nations.
The strike, ordered by Joe Biden, was designed to damage the militia group’s ability to conduct future attacks, the official said.
The Syrian airstrikes come after the Biden administration was confronting an Iranian regime that was promising to rapidly escalate its nuclear program.
The airstrikes destroyed several structures used by Iran-backed Shi’a militias operating on the border between Syria and Iraq, Pentagon Press Secretary John Kirby announced in a statement Tuesday evening.
“The operation sends an unambiguous message: President Biden will act to protect American and Coalition personnel,” Kirby said in a statement.
