President Trump took to Twitter Saturday morning and made one thing very clear, that following the death of Justice Ruth Bader Ginsburg on Friday, no delays would take place in nominating her successor.
“We were put in this position of power and importance to make decisions for the people who so proudly elected us, the most important of which has long been considered to be the selection of United States Supreme Court Justices.” the President Tweeted.
He is right. Regardless, the left have cried about Trump’s Tweet pointing to Republican pushback of then President Obama’s attempts to nominate a Justice of his own.
Trump’s words are not a contradiction of past statements. Trump is not a second term, lame-duck President. He’s not in office against a majority government from the opposite party. He’s an empowered President with a Republican majority in his first term with a public mandate.
It would be a contradiction and dereliction NOT to make this nomination and push it through without delay.
