Not surprisingly, Democrat candidates say they will not be using the recently released Mueller report as a basis for their 2020 presidential campaigns. Somewhat surprisingly, some Democrat political strategists are simply shocked anyone thought they would.
“I don’t know what world people are living in, but I have not heard of a Democrat campaigning on this report, they’re focused on a policy agenda,” Democratic strategist Antjuan Seawright told the Washington Examiner.
“What the conclusion of the investigation does is take out the oxygen from Republicans from talking about the special prosecutor. It allows for less noise about impeachment that the right-wing wants us to talk about. It gives a bigger stage and platform to the issues.”
With all due respect to Mr. Seawright, there’s a better than 100 percent chance that if the Mueller report had concluded that there was collusion between the Trump campaign and Russia, Democrat candidates — all of them — would have included it in their 2020 platforms. Beto O’Rourke, hours before Attorney General William Barr released his summation of the report, said collusion was almost a certainty. “[B]eyond the shadow of a doubt,” the Texas politician said.
So forgive Republicans and voters for thinking most Democrat candidates were busy editing their speeches to remove mention of Russia collusion in the immediate aftermath of the report’s release. After all, some among your cohort are having a really hard time accepting the conclusion of the investigation. And there’s little doubt Trump and Republicans will absolutely use the Mueller report findings to run in 2020.

Trump also told reporters Tuesday at the U.S. Capitol that he believed that malfeasance in the investigation of his campaign went “very high up,” and insinuated that it went to the highest levels of the West Wing under former President Barack Obama.
We’ll be moving on from Russia collusion as a nation (thank God), and hopefully focusing on policy work and shoring up trade and strategic alliances around the world, but that doesn’t mean the investigations into what happened in 2016 are going to end. The narrative will simply change. But this is far from the last time Democrats will hear about the Mueller report, whether they choose to talk about it themselves or not.
