Rep. Ilhan Omar Playing Trojan Horse – Who Does She Answer To? And Why Is She Fighting Critical US Protections Against Terrorism?

On Friday, anti-Semitic Rep. Ilhan Omar (D-MN) appeared to call for a complete defunding of the Department of Homeland Security (DHS), which would eliminate numerous government agencies that protect the United States.

“When Democrats stood our ground last month, we proved that Individual 1 does not have the public support to ram his hateful wall through Congress,” Omar tweeted. “Let’s stand firm: #Not1Dollar for DHS.”

DHS has a budget of over $45 billion per year, which it uses to fund multiple operational and support components that the department oversees.

Completely defunding DHS would end the U.S. Citizenship and Immigration Services (USCIS), United States Coast Guard (USCG), United States Customs and Border Protection (CBP), Cybersecurity and Infrastructure Security Agency (CISA), Federal Emergency Management Agency (FEMA), Federal Law Enforcement Training Center (FLETC), United States Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE), United States Secret Service (USSS), Transportation Security Administration (TSA), Management Directorate, Science and Technology Directorate, Countering Weapons of Mass Destruction Office, Office of Intelligence and Analysis, and the Office of Operations Coordination.

According to DHS’s stated mission, the department has five core goals:

Prevent Terrorism and Enhance Security:

Protecting the American people from terrorist threats is our founding principle and our highest priority. The Department of Homeland Security’s counterterrorism responsibilities focus on three goals:

  1. Prevent terrorist attacks;
  2. Prevent the unauthorized acquisition, importation, movement, or use of chemical, biological, radiological, and nuclear materials and capabilities within the United States; and
  3. Reduce the vulnerability of critical infrastructure and key resources, essential leadership, and major events to terrorist attacks and other hazards.

Secure and Manage Our Borders:

The Department of Homeland Security secures the nation’s air, land, and sea borders to prevent illegal activity while facilitating lawful travel and trade. The Department’s border security and management efforts focus on three interrelated goals:

  1. Effectively secure U.S. air, land, and sea points of entry;
  2. Safeguard and streamline lawful trade and travel; and
  3. Disrupt and dismantle transnational criminal and terrorist organizations.

Enforce and Administer Our Immigration Laws:

The Department is focused on smart and effective enforcement of U.S. immigration laws while streamlining and facilitating the legal immigration process.

The Department has fundamentally reformed immigration enforcement, prioritizing the identification and removal of criminal aliens who pose a threat to public safety and targeting employers who knowingly and repeatedly break the law.

Safeguard and Secure Cyberspace:

The Department has the lead for the federal government for securing civilian government computer systems, and works with industry and state, local, tribal and territorial governments to secure critical infrastructure and information systems. The Department works to:

  1. analyze and reduce cyber threats and vulnerabilities;
  2. distribute threat warnings; and
  3. coordinate the response to cyber incidents to ensure that our computers, networks, and cyber systems remain safe.

Ensure Resilience to Disasters:

The Department of Homeland Security provides the coordinated, comprehensive federal response in the event of a terrorist attack, natural disaster or other large-scale emergency while working with federal, state, local, and private sector partners to ensure a swift and effective recovery effort. The Department builds a ready and resilient nation through efforts to:

  1. Bolster information sharing and collaboration
  2. Provide grants, plans and training to our homeland security and law enforcement partners
  3. Facilitate rebuilding and recovery along the Gulf Coast
