President Trump received a heartfelt gesture from a rancher when the president visited Texas to host a discussion on border security.
Trump was in McAllen, Texas recently to meet with Border Patrol officials at a roundtable conference. The president continues to urge Congress to approve $5.7 billion in funding for a border wall.
Local rancher and bona fide Texas cowboy Monty Awbrey spoke in support of the proposed border wall during the discussion. He pointed out the difficulties Border Patrol agents deal with in the area, Fox News reports.
In a gesture of thanks to the president, Awbrey presented him with a true Texan’s gift: his own belt buckle.
At first, a confused Trump gave the rest of the room a deadpan look as Awbrey began to remove the buckle from his belt, drawing laughter from the crowd.
“I would like to present you with my belt buckle,” Awbrey explained.
“You can give it to your son Barron,” he told Trump.
Trump held up the belt buckle up to the rest of the room.
“He’s bribing the president!” Trump joked, prompting laughs. “I want this to be out in the open, everybody.”
“I don’t know if this is worth 10 cents or if it’s worth $50,000, but that’s very nice of you,” Trump said, as he shook Awbrey’s hand.

That Big Ol’ Generous Cowboy is my good friend Monty Awbrey and that Buckle is a Trophy Buckle! You get those through hard work and persistence. Whether the President knows it or not he just received a piece of our South Texas Heritage. #rgv #welive #longlivethecowboy
