UPDATE: The White House Just Reassured Hard Working Americans That The Democrats Government Shutdown Won’t Stop You From Getting Your Tax Return!

Good news, folks. If you were worried the IRS won’t give you your money back after taking so much of it, then worry no more.

According to The Hill, the White House has reassured us that we’re still going to get a tax refund while the Democrats and Republicans duke it out over border wall funding:

“Tax refunds will go out,” Russell Vought, the acting director of the White House Office of Management and Budget, told reporters during a briefing.

Vought said the move was a change from past shutdowns and that the appropriate agencies would issue further guidance.

Issuing tax refunds might lower pressure on Trump and his GOP allies in Congress to abandon their demand for $5.7 billion in border wall funding and reopen the government.

“We have been trying to make this as painless as possible consistent with the law,” said Vought.

But it remains unclear whether the administration has the legal authority to hand out refunds during the partial shutdown, which is now in its third week.

As The Hill notes, many were concerned about getting their tax refund which would have put increased pressure on the government to resolve the issue. However, if the Democrats were relying on it to help them bypass allowing the billions of dollars to pass through congress then they may not have that tool in their belt any longer.

It’s still questionable as to whether or not forcing through the returns is within the President’s power, but the Democrats would find themselves in an awfully nasty position of denying many Americans their money if they’re wanting to keep Trump from using the tax returns to buy him more time.

Between this and the fact that private businesses and donations are keeping open national parks like Yellowstone, the Democrats are losing more footholds in terms of public opinion.
