The leftist group Antifa, who descended upon Tucker Carlson’s home on Wednesday night, are in a heap of trouble with D.C. Police.
Local authorities released the following statement:
D.C. Police statement on Tucker Carlson home threat: “A group of protestors broke the law by defacing private property … MPD takes these violations seriously & we will work to hold those accountable for their unlawful actions. There is currently an open criminal investigation.”
The D.C. police are treating this as a “hate crime,” which has wide-reaching ramifications if they are found guilty.
CitizenFreePress reported that the Washington’s Metropolitan Police Department reported that officers were summoned to Carlson’s home Wednesday evening and found a broken front door and about 20 protesters with a commonly used anarchy symbol spray-painted on the driveway.
The Metropolitan Police said in a statement that they welcome and support all expressions of free speech and First Amendment rights but that “defacing private property” is an obvious violation.
“We will work to hold those accountable for their unlawful actions. There is currently an open criminal investigation regarding this matter,” the statement said.
Carlson was scheduled to be on vacation Thursday from his Fox News program, “Tucker Carlson Tonight,” but he called in to talk with substitute host Brian Kilmeade.
“They weren’t protesting anything,” Carlson said of the crowd. “They weren’t trying to change my mind or advocate for a position. They were threatening my family to get me to stop talking.”
Hate-crime laws serve a symbolic function. They proclaim that crimes fueled by certain types of bias are especially repugnant.

A crowd of people gathered outside Carlson’s home on Wednesday night, shouting insults and, according to the police statement, defacing property.
“We welcome those who come here to exercise their First Amendment rights in a safe and peaceful manner; however, we prohibit them from breaking the law,” the D.C. Metropolitan Police Department said in a statement to The Hill.
“Last night, a group of protestors broke the law by defacing private property at a Northwest, DC residence,” the statement said. “MPD takes these violations seriously, and we will work to hold those accountable for their unlawful actions.
“There is currently an open criminal investigation regarding this matter.”
The report states that an anarchist symbol was spray-painted across Carlson’s driveway. It characterizes the defacement as a “suspected hate crime” motivated by “anti-political” bias.
The Metropolitan Police Department considers a crime motivated by political affiliationto fall under the category of bias-related crime.
