President Donald Trump and Vice President Mike Pence threatened to impose “large sanctions” on Turkey if they don’t release Andrew Brunson, right, an American pastor who has been detained in the country.
And it seems that these actions worked!

A source in the United States familiar with the developments said the sudden shift came a day before U.S. Vice President Mike Pence had been set to unveil a harsh new policy on Turkey.
The source, who was not authorized to speak publicly about the matter, said U.S. and Turkish officials had been working on a deal that would lead to Brunson’s release, with Washington expecting him to be freed at the trial last week.
U.S. officials had been under the impression that the deal was in place, the source said, adding that when Brunson was not released, Pence spoke with President Donald Trump and the two agreed harsh new policy measures were needed to force the issue.
Pence spoke by phone on Wednesday with Brunson, who expressed gratitude for the help from Trump and his top officials in securing his move from prison, the source said.
“The United States will impose large sanctions on Turkey for their longtime detainment of Pastor Andrew Brunson, a great Christian, family man, and wonderful human being,” tweeted Trump.
“He is suffering greatly,” Trump added. “This innocent man of faith should be released immediately!”
Prior to Trump’s tweet, Pence made a similar threat. “If Turkey does not take immediate action to free this man of faith and send him home to America,” he told attendees at a Ministerial on Religious Freedom at the State Department, “the United States will impose significant sanctions on Turkey until Pastor Andrew Brunson is free.”
“While he is out of jail he is still not free,” Pence said in his speech.
“And to President Erdogan and the Turkish government, I have a message on behalf of the President of the United States of America,” he continued. “Release Pastor Andrew Brunson now or be prepared to face the consequences.”
Do you think that Trump’s policy of “America First” is working!
