Like many of his colleagues, CNN’s Jim Acosta commented on Saturday’s White House Correspondents’ Dinner — but instead of agreeing with many that the jokes had crossed the line into vicious and personal attacks, Acosta instead lamented that the dinner didn’t focus enough on President Trump’s “constant attacks on the press.”
My problem with last night’s dinner is not that we had a comedian who told some nasty jokes. It’s that we did not really address the nearly constant attacks on the press from the president. The dinner should change with the times so we send a strong message to the world. #WHCD

Acosta suggested that what should have been addressed was President Donald Trump’s oppositional stance with regard to most media outlets — a mission that CNN’s chief White House correspondent has made a priority since being personally called out as “fake news” by President Donald Trump in early 2017.
While regularly criticizing the White House for attacks on the press, Acosta has routinely antagonized White House press secretary Sarah Huckabee Sanders during daily briefings and even yelled questions at the president while he colored with children at the annual Easter Egg Roll.
