Amid reports from the BBC that President Donald Trump will visit England in July and is likely to meet Queen Elizabeth “at Buckingham Palace or Windsor Castle,” the mayor of London took to social media to troll the US president while not-so-subtly urging protests.
Not that Nigel Farage, the conservative former leader of the UK Independence Party, was going let Mayor Sadiq Khan get away with it scot-free.
“Oh well done Sadiq, you could not have put out a more PC statement could you,” he said on his LBC radio show, mocking the “overly politically correct” language used by Mayor Khan.
Farage said President Trump may not visit Central London because of protesters, of which, Mayor Khan is doing his part to encourage.
Khan, who has accusing Trump of “amplifying” racism and fascism, and has said the U.S. president would “not be welcomed” in his city, took to Twitter to effectively urge residents to protest what’s being characterized as “a working visit,” masking the call to action as an example of Londoners holding the “liberal value of freedom of speech very dear.”
Nevermind that police in the United Kingdom monitor social media posts and warn that they “may be acted upon.”

Farage, who tweeted that he was “delighted” that Trump was coming while noting this puts England a year behind France, responded to the mayor’s tweet by accusing him of “virtue signalling.”

The reaction on social media featured a common theme, that being the hypocrisy of Khan touting freedom of speech in a country where the liberties of English subjects are routinely violated by authorities.
