Rep. Maxine Waters added her own brand of confusion to a defining question about her view on former FBI director James Comey.
The California Democrat walked in circles on the topic during her appearance with MSNBC’s Chris Hayes on Monday.
Waters regularly criticized Comey during the 2016 election campaign and said “the FBI director has no credibility,” in interviews last year. But finding herself in agreement with President Trump, who has been the target of the congresswoman’s inane threats of impeachment, may have finally sent the woman too far.
Hayes aired a January 2017 clip of Waters denouncing Comey and his lack of credibility, which was apparently rather amusing to the Democrat.
“You and Donald Trump do agree on that,” Hayes said. “That sentence you said – the FBI director has no credibility -you and Donald Trump are in agreement on that.”
“No, absolutely not,” Waters pushed back. “I said that and I certainly meant it.”
However, she argued, “it is quite different when you take a look at Comey and his relationship to the president,” adding “I believe him.”
Hayes attempted to clarify her remark, asking Watters to repeat if she believes Comey.
“I believe him, yes,” she circled. “So then was then, and now is now.”
The state of confusion Waters created spilled over onto social media where Twitter users attempted to follow the Democrat’s circular thinking.

Can’t make this stuff up. Way to go Maxine. We don’t need your help, we know how crazy you are. Always funny though.

She is a walking disaster and I love it. Give her all the camera time possible. Better than any political ad for why you should vote republican/independent.

She’s crazy. Term limits needed badly. pic.twitter.com/UdQJSdvaKA

She does. Unfortunately, taxpayers pay for it and her constituents suffer.
