Did anyone not see this coming?

Michael Avenatti, the attorney for porn star Stormy Daniels, said on “CBS This Morning” Wednesday that his client would be willing to accept a settlement in her lawsuit, which seeks to void a 2016 nondisclosure agreement regarding her alleged affair with President Trump.

“If they came to you with a settlement in this case, would you accept it?” co-host Anthony Mason asked.

“I think we would consider it, I would converse with my client,” Avanatti replied. “It would depend on the terms of a settlement. But at this point, I don’t see how the case gets resolved short of the truth coming out.”

Responding to Gayle King’s question about whether the lawsuit is “politically motivated” and an effort to “embarrass” the president, the attorney said:

“It’s just simply not true. I’m not involved in politics. I’m representing my client. The president and [Trump lawyer Michael] Cohen are the ones that have spread half-truths and falsities about my client.

“My client wants the American people to know the truth and nothing but the truth.”

The interview came hours after Avenatti filed a deposition request to question the president directly.

“We have a hearing set on April 30th,” Avenatti told the “This Morning” crew. “The court will either reach a decision then or shortly thereafter.”

Daniels, real name Stephanie Clifford, appeared on CBS’ “60 Minutes” Sunday night, where she told interviewer Anderson Cooper she was threatened with physical harm in 2011 if she spoke publicly about her alleged 2006 affair with President Trump.

Clifford was paid $130,000 by Cohen in 2016 as part of the nondisclosure agreement, a sum the lawyer has maintained came from his personal funds.

Avenatti had teased the “60 Minutes” interview on Twitter with a mysterious photo of a disc he suggested contained evidence supporting his client’s story. The disc’s contents were not revealed during the program.

On Twitter, President Trump’s supporters censured Clifford and Avenatti for their willingness to accept a settlement.
