The GOP certainly had an identity crisis in the Alabama special election, a fact the politicos were happy to point out.
The establishment GOP fought the up-start campaigns of Mo Brooks and Roy Moore. Moore was eventually victorious, with the help of former Trump adviser Steve Bannon. Moore lost the race after a landslide of sexual misconduct allegations mounted against him. The GOP now must deal with a Democrat senator in a deep red state.
Many liberals did a victory lap after the race, using the win as a broader referendum on Trump. Hillary Clinton was among those who chimed in, saying “For me, this was a very important turning point in basically holding President Trump and his most vitriolic, destructive advisers, led by Steve Bannon, accountable.”
In case you forgot, Hillary Clinton lost the 2016 election to Donald Trump in the electoral college, 304 to 227.
The president’s son, Donald Trump Jr. responded to Clinton’s comments on Twitter.
