For those among us oblivious to the fact that the country dodged a huge bullet by electing Donald Trump and by rejecting the agenda that liberal progressives had in store for our government, the situation that France’s Marine Le Pen finds herself in should serve as a precautionary tale.
Le Pen is in some serious legal trouble for tweets showing pictures of ISIS atrocities which violates French State Laws. Although these laws come complete with all manner of descriptive language within they can for the most part be summed up as “Be nice to Islam”
For those unfamiliar with the French firebrand Le Pen a little background may be in order.
Le Pen is considered a member of the “far-right” in France although her National front with its advocacy in favor of same sex marriage and it’s acceptance of abortion would hardly qualify her party as even moderately right wing here.
The diminutive 49 year old has twice run for President in France. In the 2017 election she ran an extremely vocal campaign that in some ways mirrored the populist campaign that was instrumental in successfully electing Donald Trump. Le Pen was considered the “Patriots candidate”. Her position on immigration and deregulation can be summed up by her comments that
“Either we continue on the path of total de-regulation, offshoring, mass immigration, free movement of terrorists, the reign of big money. Or you choose the France of borders that protects your identity,”
Though many of her positions on immigration would appear to make sense for a country plagued with major immigration issues, she lost her second bid for President to Emmanuel Marcon.
in 2015 Le Pen posted three controversial images that depicted violence by ISIS, and although these images violated France’s laws which state that it is illegal to post
“‘violent messages that incite terrorism or pornography or seriously harm human dignity’
she was not prosecuted as she possessed “parliamentary immunity” from prosecution. However France’s National Assembly voted to lift her immunity and go ahead and prosecute her, which seems very much like something left wing members of our congress would willingly support.
Le Pen faces fines and penalties of “three years in prison and a fine of €75,000” which seems rather Le Ridiculous but that’s what you get when you let the left wing win elections, all kinds of laws about not hurting people’s feelings even if the people in question are trying to kill you and destroy your country.
Normally (and thankfully) when our own pandering political professionals (say that three times fast) attempt to pass painfully stupid laws there are other political types around them who (perhaps nearing reelection) realize that passing such a law might just cost them whatever political capital that they have managed to acquire which motivates them to vote against the legislation
But that doesn’t mean that the troubles facing La Pen in France could never face us here. Just pay a little attention to the nutcases in our Congress now and their demands for impeachment of the President (because their crappy candidate didn’t win) or some ridiculous law banning politicians (like our President) who the left doesn’t like from having access to nuclear weapons, which kind of begs the question, who SHOULD then? Maxine Waters? Al Frankin?
The political winds are swirling around right now and the 2018 midterms could well decide the course of America’s political future.
Let’s hope that it quits blowing left, before we too are Le Screwed
