When a young boy from Tennessee heard that President Trump will take only $1 salary, he was determined to help him.
“I thought, how is he going to eat or drink,” Eli’sha Davies said. “Or, you know, pay, if he needs to pay his water bill or anything.”
In a conversation he had with his mother Melissa, the 9-year-old told her he wanted to help President Trump by sending some money to him.
“My first impression was like, ‘You’re going to give your money away again,’ cause he’s been trying to save it up for a mandolin,” Melissa told WBIR. “But at the same time, I was like, I don’t want to discourage his generosity, and I think it’s sweet.”
Eli’sha sent a letter to President Trump in January with a $3 donation.
The months have passed, and the little boy forgot about it when one day he received a big envelope sent to him.
The envelope was sent by President Trump and contained a letter of appreciation in which the president explained that he couldn’t accept the gift. Anyhow, Trump said that he hopes Eli’sha would “look for ways to make a difference” in his community.
“One of the best aspects of my job as President is hearing from young Americans like you, and I am grateful for your and your family’s prayers,” Trump stated in the letter.
“With your faith and determination, I have no doubt you can do anything to which you set your mind,” the president continued. “Think big and dream even bigger! You are the future of our great nation.”
Besides Eli’sha’s $3 the letter contained a photo of Trump and Vice President Mike Pence in the Oval Office.
When the young boy was asked what he would do with the money, he answered he is “going to put some serious thought into it.”
“Well, I just want to be a blessing to everyone,” he continued.
But the surprises didn’t end here.
The boy’s mother explained that her son wanted to buy a mandolin, but he continued to give the money away and that’s why he cannot afford it.
“Eli’sha has a big heart,” she said. “He’s very conscientious and empathetic. I just hope that never changes.”
Eli’sha plays the instrument in his school but he couldn’t practice playing at home.
The big surprise was that Young Musicians Education Foundation Inc. decided to send him a new mandolin.
According to the law, the president salary is $400,000 per year. Anyhow, the president decided to donate his salary to a various project at the National Park Service and Department of Education.
The president also made an 11-year-old’s boy greatest wish come true when he decided to mow the White House lawn and then asked him and his father to visit the Oval Office.
