Putin Says Sanctions Against North Korea Would Be Useless

Russian President Vladimir Putin dismissed calls by the United States for more sanctions against North Korea as being “useless and ineffective.”

“They’ll eat grass, but they won’t abandon their program unless they feel secure,” he told reporters Tuesday.

The only way forward with the rogue regime is through diplomatic means, he argued.

“There’s no other path except for a peaceful, diplomatic resolution of the North Korean nuclear problem,” Putin said.

Anything else that serves to fan the flames of war hysteria will lead to a “global catastrophe and a huge number” of human casualties.

North Korea on Sunday claimed to have tested a hydrogen bomb that can be mounted to an intercontinental ballistic missile.

One nuclear weapons expert described the test a “city buster.”

President Trump warned that the U.S. could stop trade with any country that does business with the rogue regime.

“The United States is considering, in addition to other options, stopping all trade with any country doing business with North Korea,” he tweeted Sunday.

Treasury Secretary Steven Mnuchin recommended another round of tough sanctions.

“It’s clear that this behavior is completely unacceptable,” he said on “Fox News Sunday.”

“We’ve already started with sanctions against North Korea but I am going to draft a sanctions package to send to the president for his strong consideration,” he added. “There’s much more we can do economically.”
