Established with the best of intentions, the United Nations has been little more than a thorn in America’s side.
Rampant corruption and incompetence has prevented the world body from accomplishing nearly all of its stated goals.
And all the while it is costing American taxpayers exorbitant amounts of money.
Well, President Trump has officially put the UN on notice that he’s pulling America out of at least one of its pointless money sinks.
According to a White House statement:
“The Trump administration notified the United Nations Friday of its intention to leave the Paris climate accord, the latest in a series of formal steps the administration needs to take to leave the agreement in 2020.”
Signing the Paris climate accord was a major feather in former president Barack Obama’s cap. But many Americans immediately noticed problems.
America was expected to provide the financing for most of the accord’s very expensive programs, while those efforts were expected to yield a miniscule-at-best improvement in climate conditions.
Trump, being the businessman he is, publicly announced in June that enough was enough. He was going to pull America out of the accord and save us, the taxpayers, billions in the process.
And now, he’s making good on that promise.
A State Department memo confirmed:
“As the President indicated in his June 1 announcement and subsequently, he is open to re-engaging in the Paris Agreement if the United States can identify terms that are more favorable to it, its businesses, its workers, its people, and its taxpayers.”
