White House communications director Anthony Scaramucci’s wife has left him and filed for divorce following his ascent to a top White House post.
Deidre Ball is ending the couple’s three-year marriage over Scaramucci’s “naked political ambition” in pursuit of a job in the Trump administration, Page Six reported Friday. Ball became fed up with Scaramucci’s drive to join the White House team, and one source told Page Six that she did not want to be a part of his foray into politics.
“Deidre has left him and has filed for divorce. She liked the nice Wall Street life and their home on Long Island, not the insane world of D.C.,” one source said. “She is tired of his naked ambition, which is so enormous that it left her at her wits’ end.”
“She has left him even though they have two children together,” the source added.
According to Page Six, Ball found that Scaramucci was “hell-bent” on joining President Donald Trump’s White House for months before he finally was appointed communications director last week. He sold his company SkyBridge Capital, of which Deidre served as vice president of investor relations, in January to pursue a senior role that he was in line for originally.
Former White House chief of staff Reince Priebus opposed Scaramucci’s ascendancy but Trump brought him on anyway, and Priebus ended up leaving Friday. Scaramucci wasted little time before going after Priebus, telling Ryan Lizza of the New Yorker that he is a “f**king paranoid schizophrenic, a paranoiac.”
Scaramucci and Ball were together for three years and had two children together. They started dating in 2011 and reportedly married in 2014. A source close to Scaramucci told Page Six that her hatred of Trump was a factor.
“Deidre is not a fan of Trump, and she hasn’t exactly been on board and supportive of Anthony and his push to get back into the White House,” the source said.
A friend said, “I don’t know who Deidre thought she was marrying but anyone who knows Anthony knows he’s an ambitious man.”
In his call to Lizza, Scaramucci expressed his loyalty to Trump in emphatic terms. He took shots at White House chief strategist Steve Bannon and said that he cared more about America.
“I’m not trying to build my own brand off the f**king strength of the president. I am here to serve the country,” Scaramucci said.
