We now know the identity of at least one of the Democrats who will line up for the chance to challenge President Trump in the 2020 election.
And, no, we’re not talking about Hillary Clinton or Bernie Sanders, neither of whom has yet confirmed anything.
However, according to her supporters, Sen. Kamala Harris (D-CA) is definitely going to be on the ticket.
The Hill reports:
“She’s running for president. Take it to the bank,” one fundraiser said. “She’s absolutely going to run.”Donors say Harris is giving them a glimmer of hope when they need it the most.
They see the former prosecutor-turned-California attorney general as embodying the qualities a Democratic presidential candidate would need to win the White House in 2020.
They also see the 52-year-old African-American woman as a fresh face.
And that, right there, is why Trump might need to be worried.
Before the start of the 2008 election cycle, almost no one outside of Chicago knew who Barack Obama was.
It didn’t matter.
He was young, charismatic and, above all, black.
The prospect of America’s first black president was enough to propel a junior senator with very few, if any, achievements to his name into the White House.
Imagine how strong the pull will be on voters if an African-American WOMAN is on the ticket.
