Funny – We Chicks have been saying that very thing for years now… “We’re never going to have a perfect candidate unless Jesus Christ is on the ballot.” The thing is, in years past, we as conservatives have always picked apart our candidates. If they’re not PERFECT, we’re like, “Oh, he’s not good enough here, and she’s not good enough there, and so I can’t vote for him/her.” It drives me freaking crazy. I’ve always gone with the 80/20 rule. The Reagan rule. And I do this in life, too. If you agree with someone 80% of the time, then you’re probably compatible. I mean, you’re never going to agree with someone 100% of the time. And that person is NEVER going to be perfect. I’M not perfect.
The only person that’s perfect – well, you know who that was.
My church’s pastor is a graduate of Liberty University. He mentions it every so often – he absolutely loves his alma mater. So Pence’s visit yesterday struck a chord with me. And the fact that Liberty University President Jerry Falwell Jr. sticking by Trump in the wake of the Trump tapes – that also struck a chord with me as well.
Here’s the thing, y’all. The Clintons have been running for office their whole LIVES. Trump? He’s been running for office for maybe a year or two. The Clintons have been careful about how they do everything, say everything, carefully plotting and planning every move in their entire adult existence.
Trump? Not so much.
Think about that.
I’m not saying it was right. Or what he said wasn’t disgusting. I’m just saying that he is human, is all.
Falwell said that, too.
“It was completely out of order. It’s not something I’m going to defend,” Falwell said Sunday. “We’re all sinners, every one of us. We’ve all done things we wish we hadn’t.”
And like I said above:
He added, “We’re never going to have a perfect candidate unless Jesus Christ is on the ballot.”
