The internet has been going positively berserk over the past few days because of the feud between Republican nominee Donald Trump and Khizr and Ghazala Khan, the parents of Capt. Humayun Khan who was killed in Iraq in 2004.
The Khans have been attacking Trump on every news agency that will host them (which is just about every news agency), and Trump has been pushing back just as hard.
The Daily Beast reported that former Trump campaign manager Corey Lewandowski, who is now a CNN contributor, has come to the defense of his former boss, pointing out that Capt. Khan would still be alive today if Trump had been in charge in 2004.
Lewandowski based his claim on Trump’s repeated statements that he opposed the Iraq War at the beginning and never would have authorized the use of troops.
“If Donald Trump was the president, Capt. Khan would be alive today because he never would have engaged in a war that didn’t directly benefit this country. He’s been very clear about that fact and said, ‘I don’t support Iraq,’ and ‘I don’t support Afghanistan,’” Lewandowski explained.
Regardless of your feelings about how justified or not the invasion was, we can all agree that mistakes were made during that war — mistakes that cost good men like Capt. Khan their lives.
“He’s been on the record multiple, multiple, multiple times saying he was against the war, unlike Hillary Clinton. If Donald Trump was president, these troops never would have gone … Capt. Khan would be alive, as would 7,000 other soldiers,” he said.
