The liberal media has gone ballistic with the news that GOP nominee Donald Trump has called for NATO allies to pay their fair shares. While all this chaos has been occurring, Trump nabbed a new ally for his own corner — Army Gen. Curtis Scaparrotti, also happens to be Supreme Allied Commander Europe of NATO Allied Command Operations.
In an interview Thursday night at the Aspen Security Forum, this top commander affirmed Trump’s call for monetary compensation from America’s NATO allies, saying that America shouldn’t be shortchanged for the assistance the country provides.
“What I tell them typically is that look, we have a people and a Congress with a tough budget as well,” Scaparrotti told The Washington Examiner. “So as a leader of another country you have to put your share into this, you have to do that because when I go back to testify to Congress I get asked these questions.”

Trump undoubtedly triggered those who cling to failing foreign policies on Wednesday, saying, “I think NATO’s great. But it’s got to be modernized, and countries that we’re protecting have to pay what they’re supposed to be paying.”
After Scaparrotti made it clear that everyone needs to chip in for the alliance to function properly, he then re-affirmed the importance of Article 5 of the NATO charter. In summary, it states that an attack on one ally is an attack on every ally.
The NATO commander bolstered the fact that this specific charter should be “ironclad,” meaning that every U.S. ally should not doubt those terms.
“Without (adequate funding) we’re not going to outpace Russia’s modernization. We’ve got to have that in order to provide a credible force,” Scaparrotti explained. “One thing (our allies) need to know is that they can count on the United States to do what we say we’re going to do.”
